| A Message from the MD First of all let me say a big thank you for visiting this website. This is a very exciting time for us here in this lovely part of North Wales, we had been without a full time gay venue for far too long. I was amazed when I first moved to Gwynedd, six years ago, that all we had was staggered gay ‘one nighters’ in various locations on various days. These events were fairly well supported, but I felt that the Gay and Lesbian community deserved a place of their own, hence the motto 'All the time when you want it'. Certain hotels in the area have their own licensed bar, and our thanks and support will always be there for them. We must also continue to support our other friends, who have good Hotels, Bed & Breakfast, Bistro’s, and Cafes, etc in the area, who do a great job for our community. What we were lacking was a full-time regular gay pub! I have been involved in the Leisure industry in London/South and Blackpool/North for the past 15 years. Blackpool is arguably one of the most popular gay destinations in the UK and very colourful. Because of the sensitivity of being gay/lesbian living in North Wales, I felt it was very important to get the location right. After carrying out extensive research and looking at several possible sites, I finally found what is proving to be the ideal location. I don’t think North Wales is ready for us to be ‘out’, perhaps as much as we would like to be, (when they are we're be the first) especially along side our ‘straight’ neighbours. Although we are proud of being who we are and what we are, we must not forget those who are unable to ‘come out’ yet for various reasons. Everyone in our community is welcome, as is our friends str8 or otherwise. We are fortunate too as we have excellent close links and support with the police and local authorities. The opening of the ‘Three Crowns’ Well it has been over 3 years since we first opened and what a time were all having! Firstly I’d like to express my special thanks to Hywel Williams MP for Caernarfon, June Marshall the Lady Mayoress of Bangor, the local Police, Keith from Mesmac and all our guest’s and friends for their support, who came to the VIP opening night on the Friday. For those of you who made it to our official opening, a very big thank you too! The lovely TV personality Russell Grant himself did a fantastic job popping the cork with the old Champagne; there was plenty of good-humoured banter going on. Russell enjoyed himself so much so, that he was only meant to stay for 20 minutes but ended up staying for an hour! Happily signing his autographs for all our friends and guest’s!!! A lot of preparation…enough time? Read on .... We took over the Three Crowns at 8 am, Monday the 2nd June 2003, a lovely sunny day! Although the pub was already trading we had no choice but to close the doors and shut the place down, Just four and a half days until Friday 6th, to transform the Three Crowns into what you see now! The moment we closed the doors, the Deputy Manager wasted no time in taking down all the pictures etc, the General Manager (Malcolm) and myself went about moving all the old furniture out and dismantling the light fittings, out went the big pool table (which took up nearly a third of the pub! This is now our cabaret room) Out too went the old duke box. By the afternoon we were ready for the decorators. Work went on around the clock. Like all refurbishments you always come across unexpected problems, we did, gas leaks, faulty wiring and a leak in the ladies loo just to name a few, but we carried on and made it in the finish! And finally.......... After a lot of determination we now have in place our entertainments licence, this allows us to have cabaret, DJ and entertainment seven days a week, this really is brilliant news as we now have regular professional cabaret acts. In place too now, is new, updated professional sound and lighting to equip our new stage….. The scene is set! But of course the most exiting news is that we have been successful in obtaining our late licence until 12 midnight every day and 1am on Friday and Saturday. The Magistrates were wonderful and very supportive, had the 3 Crowns been 'just another venue' we would not have been successful. I'd like to sincerely thank all our regulars & friends who signed our petition (over 600) and who continue to support us. If you still have not had the chance to come along, we’d love to see you, Looking forward to seeing you soon at the “Three Crowns” Glen x
