Mums and dads rarely look at their own horoscope today because they are far more interested in sussing out that horoscope today for their kids, especially from the ages of one to five when the “little ones” are so interesting and involved in much growing and changing. But we do wonder what that horoscope today would say when it comes to the school holidays, when the lovable little critters can be both so stressful and such fun, it probably depends on our own attitude. So what kind of games can we arrange for some of our kiddy signs to keep them occupied and amused?

Gemini

Gemini’s are complex little fella’s with highly wired minds and a need for challenge. Here is a game they can play with the neighbourhood kids. Organize a ball game in which your kid shouts “Annie Annie over” as he throws a ball over a wall, hedge or fence to a kid, or kids on the other side. If they catch the ball they can sneak around it, ask to come into your garden and throw the ball back at him or catch him and start playing tag together. Gemini loves company and it could be a fun way of getting to know the local brood if you just moved into the neighbourhood. Parties with games like “Oranges and Lemons” are not his style. He gets bored.

Leo

A little Leo no matter how small likes to be the centre of attention. So when you throw his birthday party, usually during the summer hols, make sure he starts off blindfolded and then get him catching the other kids. He has to identify who they are blind fold of course, just by feeling their face and hair. He will enjoy doing that and could pretend he does not know who he has caught, even if he does, just to prolong his fun. Hired clowns and entertainers also go down well because our little Leos like to laugh, hoot and create a good impression.

Virgo

Sweet little Katy Virgo will love to draw or cut out pieces of paper and stick them together as a matter of course. Perhaps she is showing signs of being a child genius and could already be into reading her own Horoscope Today. But should she not be, here is a fun game to keep yourself and your cute little Virgo busy on a rainy day.

The Howstuffworks website tells us how to craft Craft Stick Puzzles by recycling old picture books. Little Virgo can learn how to make her own puzzles from her favourite story books in other words. She will need:

7 Jumbo Craft Sticks

Pictures from a Storybook or Magazine

Masking Tape

Scissors

Crafty Glue

Craft Knife

Your help.

1. Line up 7 jumbo craft sticks side by side on your work surface and tape them together to hold them in place while you work. Turn the sticks over.

2. Trim a picture to fit on the craft sticks and glue it to the centre of the sticks. Let the glue dry and then remove the tape from the back of the sticks.

3. Then you cut the sticks apart by running a craft knife through the seams. If you don’t want to damage a favourite storybook, try shopping at a resale shop or garage sale to find an inexpensive book you won’t mind cutting up.

Pisces mini personalities will probably also like to play with paper and glue, but they probably love their keyboard more than anything else. So get some great rock music on the stereo and ask them to imitate each member of the band. Get them to the play pretend drums, guitar and keyboard and watch how they morph into the Rolling Stones in two seconds flat. This game will probably end up with the neighbourhood kids joining in and banging various saucepans, skittles and whistles, while you walk around smiling with great pink earmuffs on.

As the kids play, you pick up the astro journal and the horoscope today for your own sun sign reads “enjoy fun times with someone younger!” The fact is you are having fun!
