PYSCHIC

Even a sensitive and knowing psychic would have problems explaining the phenomena of Spontaneous Human Combustion, or SHC. As much as a pyschic has in-depth experience of human oddities, she might still be left “grasping at straws” when it comes to working out the eerie tales of people bursting into flames all by themselves.

Spontaneous Human Combustion, or SHC, is all about the human body catching fire, and burning itself out. Whilst extremely rare, it does indeed happen, and leaves both main stream science, and metaphysical folk scratching their heads in shock and dismay.

Various Types of Spontaneous Human Combustion

There are two types of SHC, the “bursting into flame” type, and the “slow burn”.

The “slow burn” tends to happen to solitary, older folk who live by themselves. It appears they fall into a sort of comatose state, and then start self-incinerating. Some say that the emotional distress of the lonely triggers the unfortunate occurrence. Some are alcoholics which would fit in with the theory that high alcohol traces in the blood stream could self-ignite an individual. Another reason could be static electricity. Perhaps the human body creates a spark that sets it alight, but one is at pains to understand why a person would allow themselves to passively burn slowly, without doing anything about it. That is why an almost comatose state prior to the incident could be a valid explanation.

Cases of Spontaneous Human Combustion

The first registered case of such Spontaneous Human Combustion was in 1663 when the Danish anatomist Thomas Bartholin saw a woman literally “go up in smoke” whilst she was sleeping on a straw mattress. The mattress itself was totally untouched by fire.

Another freaky case of Spontaneous Human Combustion, one which would have many a pyschic reaching for the crme to menthe, was that of 92 year old Dr Bentley who was discovered with only one leg and foot left to tell his tale. The rest of him had turned to ashes.

The clues of “slow burn” Spontaneous Human Combustion are the following:

1. The legs and arms seem to always remain intact.

2. The burnt condition of the face and head leave the person unrecognizable.

3. The area around the person shows no signs of fire.

Science

But could there be reasons, other than the “Scientific” ones presented by the medical fraternity? Certainly a pyschic could attempt to explain the phenomena metaphysically. Ball lightning could be one explanation. Round balls of electricity, who some deny exist, and are very rare, could strike these people down, or burn them up. Or the source could originate from some parallel universe. Poltergeist phenomena cause’s outbreaks of flames and haunted properties see fires appearing out of nowhere. A pyschic might “perceive” the causes as nasty spirits!

The “bursting into flame” type of human combustion is blatantly horrific. One of the most unfortunate occurrences took place in Chelmsford England. On the 20th September 1938 a woman suddenly burst into blue flames in the midst of a crowded dance floor. People screamed, and rushed for buckets of water However, nobody was able to put out the fire and she was soon just a heap of ashes.

UK Incident

In 1937, also in the United Kingdom, a woman who had been innocently paddling a boat in a small lake in Norfolk, with her husband and children, suddenly burst into those same terrifying blue flames, and morphed into ashes within a few minutes. Her husband, the boat, and her children remained horrified, but untouched.

Whatever, the true reasons for SHC, one cannot help but think, as would any sensible pyschic, that the source is metaphysical. Further research on the subject might even bring to light the existence of other worlds, energies and realities.
