The Lovers Card

Usually we get pretty excited when tarot predictions see The Lover’s Card in our future. We expect the “romantic” best! Jane had some tarot predictions done at the local Women’s Institute “do”, as well as around her mate’s house and both times The Lovers was the final answer to the layout. Her mate, Lucy was not the greatest of empaths but when the lovers came up as the final card she said “You are so lucky, I never get The Lovers!”

Jane was not surprised, only recently she had met a gorgeous guy and it felt as if she had known him forever. There was a “resonance” between them from the word go. They were clicking in like “nobody’s business”; they could even look into each other’s eyes full on and not feel creeped-out. It was only a matter of time before they would have to declare themselves to each other, or at least that is what Jane thought. But human beings are complex creatures, the outcome of The Lover’s card is a little more complicated than Jane’s expectations!

Tarot predictions tell us that the Lover’s Card is a yes to love! Yes, Eros has shown up aiming his bow and arrow at our hearts. Yes, commitment would be a resolution to the situation. Yes; nobody wants to be alone any more. And yes the wonders of love are being revealed on a daily basis but no; it is not always going to be easy to make a decision on love. If we decide on love, we might be losing out on our independence. If we decide on love, a committed relationship could present us with new challenges. We know that to make a relationship work we have to keep our finger on the communication pulse. Being in love does mean things livening up in the erotic department too, but again, it all can seem very scary, especially when intimacy, commitment and “who controls who” issues come up.

The fact is the Lovers Card is always about an emotional choice. All tarot predictions will tell you that. That choice can be symbolized by a triangle-type relationship, where one has to decide on a current relationship compared to a new one.

True Story

When John first met Cheryl she appeared to be everything he wanted in a woman. However, when they went out for dinner, he noticed that she always complained about the food or the service. . He also noticed she would complain endlessly about her job.

John engaged in strenuous mental gymnastic to get his head around this. When he went out to dinner with her he would focus on her discriminating taste, or when she ranted about her job he told her what a trooper she was to put up with bad working conditions.

The real problem was that Cheryl was so unavailable. After about six months Cheryl demanded that he did not see her during the week so she could have “a little more breathing room”. John reluctantly agreed.

But then John started seeing Patricia, who was just the opposite of Cheryl. Sweet, compliant loving, she was crazy about him. But it felt to John as if Patricia did not exist and the unavailable, critical Cheryl was who he desperately wanted.

In therapy it surfaced that John’s mother had a cold, unloving, critical attitude towards him. She was frequently unavailable and this filled him with anxiety.

Cheryl’s coldness thus activated in him the same childhood feelings. In psychological terms this is called “transference”. Therefore it was the dark side of Cheryl’s personality that appealed to him and it was that side he fell in love with.

Tarot predictions tell us that The Lover’s card in our spread means love is coming! The Lover’s Card depicts our need for that union, but also a need to understand our inner selves to make that union work!
